The Three Nationwide Credit Reporting Agencies

Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion are the three nationwide consumer credit reporting agencies. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you have the right to dispute inaccurate or incomplete information with each of them. Below are the current dispute contacts for all three, plus how to obtain your free reports.

Get your free credit reports

You are entitled to free copies of your credit report from each of the three agencies. Request them at AnnualCreditReport.com or by calling 1-877-322-8228. This is the only source authorized under federal law for your free reports.

If your dispute involves identity theft

When inaccurate information is the result of identity theft, you can ask the agencies to block it under FCRA § 605B. You will generally need to include a copy of an identity theft report from IdentityTheft.gov. Equifax uses a separate address for identity-theft blocks: Equifax Information Services LLC, P.O. Box 105069, Atlanta, GA 30348-5069.

Before you send a dispute

Document everything before it leaves your hands. Send copies rather than originals, keep a dated copy of the letter and of every document you enclose, and keep proof of mailing. If the agency does not correct the information, that dated record is what shows what you sent and when you sent it.
